Most people in Sukhothai were farmers. They grew rice, vegetables, and fruit. People ate rice with fish, herbs, vegetables, and sometimes meat. Fish from rivers, particularly the Yom River, was very common.
Clothing was made from cotton or silk. Farmers wore simple clothes, while nobles wore fine silk. Clothes were loose to stay cool in the hot weather. Houses were often built on wooden stilts to avoid floods and animals.
Life was quiet, community-based, and closely connected to farming and religion.
