Egyptians loved to look clean, bright, and stylish! They wore light linen clothes to stay cool — men wore short kilts and women wore long dresses. Both men and women loved makeup. They used black kohl eyeliner to protect their eyes from the sun, and colorful powders to decorate their faces. Silver was even more valuable than gold because it was rare, and the bright blue gem lapis lazuli, brought all the way from Afghanistan, was one of the most precious stones in Egypt. It was used in jewelry, crowns, and even paintings on tomb walls to show the color of the sky!
