Knights were warriors who fought for kings and lords during the Middle Ages. To protect themselves, knights wore armor made of metal. Early armor was chainmail made of many small rings. Later, knights wore full plate armor, which covered their whole body. Armor was very heavy, and knights needed help getting dressed.
Knights used many weapons. They fought with swords, spears, axes, and shields. On horseback, they used long spears called lances. In battles, knights rode into enemies or fought on foot. Battles were loud, crowded, and dangerous. Knights trained for years to become strong and skilled fighters.
Knights followed a code called chivalry, which meant being brave, loyal, and protecting the weak. While real battles were often messy, stories about knights made them seem heroic and honorable.
